TELEMENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING
THROUGH A FREE SMARTPHONE APP OR INTERNET VIDEO
Secure, confidential, HIPAA compliant video sessions are available to residents of Washington State.
Due to coronavirus outbreak in King County, I am currently seeing existing clients and new clients via phone or internet video counseling. I use HIPAA compliant methods that allow us to meet via the internet, using your computer's video camera, or a free smartphone app. This method of providing mental counseling is sometimes called telehealth or telemedicine.
I started using video counseling after a storm dumped hip deep snow around my home. Clients responded positively, finding telemental health services could be accessed if they were traveling for work or pleasure, if they were home caring for sick children, if chronic illness or disability made it difficult to commute to an office appointment, if they wanted to protect confidentiality and not be seen in a clinic waiting room, if they wanted to access a psychotherapist with my training and specialties but lived too far away, etc.
Now that we are under shelter in place orders, wanting to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our community, phone or video counseling is a good option. Does it feel as connected as meeting in person? No, not in the same way. Yet, during video or phone counseling, a meaningful connection is made, the counseling process is effective, and client outcomes are good! Research also supports the use of telemental health counseling.
Gifted and Talented
I work with intellectually gifted, high achieving, creative, and artistically talented individuals. My adult clients are entrepreneurs creating new businesses, visionary CEOs and senior VPs, artists (writers, journalists, film makers, dancers, visual artists, designers, musicians, animators, game designers, etc.), healers (doctors, counselors, and social change makers), attorneys, architects. Gifted teens may be challenged by expectations of high performance, feeling different than peers, experience problems in friend groups, and anxiety around transitioning into college and adulthood.
I am open minded and accepting, I've worked with LGBTQ teens who are "coming out" and poly families.
